Ikarus, 2020, 1/50. Digital painting. Namibian painter Arno Hoth creates digital artworks using new media technology. Born in Windhoek in 1950, he attended Kunstschule Strahn in Germany from 1974 – 1977. While living and working In Germany Hoth bought a Wacom tablet which he used as a digital sketchbook for his paintings. The tablet allowed him to work quickly, laying out and experimenting with his ideas for new work. Soon he discovered that the technology provided a wider range of possibilities than working with paint on canvas. Hoth went beyond using the tablet for sketches and began focussing on digital painting as a medium in its own right. You can read more about Hoth’s creative process here.
