Early 19th Century French Directoire Period Painted and Gilded Trumeau Mirror

This French Directoire period trumeau mirror from the turn of the nineteenth century features its original mercury glass and oil painting above. The mirror is flanked by gilded fluted columns, and gilded borders surround the mirror and painting. Separating the mirror and painting is a classic rosette with palmettes on each side. The painting depicts lovers in eighteenth century dress beside a fountain in a French garden. With a painted green patina, this trumeau is sure to make a statement above a mantle or buffet. c. 1800.
