Antique Victorian Essex Crystal Terrier Pendant

Just look at the face on this pendant of a precious Essex crystal terrier pup set in gold and you will want to hug it. The dogs big round eyes beg your attention. The dog seems to jump from its containment. Essex crystal or reverse crystal intaglio, another name for the art, was painstakingly hand made by an artist carving the the subject in reverse on the back of a crystal dome and then with tiny brushes, painting the image in reverse as well. What results is a miniature portrait under crystal. The gold content is 15 Kt. Country of origin, Great Britain. Created c. 1880-90, the pendant is in perfect condition.
